Why The Trade Would Benefit The Indiana Pacers

The Indiana Pacers have taken a big step back this season. They have not looked like the postseason team that they have been in the past and this could lead to some big moves. Malcolm Brogdon and Myles Turner are players under contract that have been thrown around in NBA trade rumors. If Brogdon is sent away, they would be able to dump his contract and add some productive players still under a rookie deal.

Brogdon is in the second of a four-year, $85 million deal with the Pacers. This trade will depend on what financial responsibility the front office wants to hold. Sabonis has turned into that all-star big that can be the franchise player for the team.

Coby White and Patrick Williams are young options that do not come with a hefty price tag. This would open up room for the Pacers to potentially add another star somewhere down the road. Indiana has Caris LeVert to lean on a bit for the future in the backcourt so putting the right pieces around him could be important. This is where some cheaper options that have a high ceiling could come into play.

One benefit for the Pacers by trading Malcolm Brogdon for this type of trade package is the flexibility that comes afterward. Patrick Williams is an intriguing versatile forward that could fit quite nicely at the four spot in the modern NBA alongside either Myles Turner or Domantas Sabonis. Basically, adding Williams makes it much easier to trade either Turner or Sabonis.

When a team takes a step back, sometimes the front office decides to blow it up a bit. That is what we could see happen in Indiana. They have been a well-run franchise for years now so it will be hard to argue against any move that is made.
