3 teams who could make a serious run at DeMar DeRozan in NBA free agency

There was one consistent name in trade rumors since the offseason. DeMar DeRozan entered the offseason with NBA rumors of being unhappy in the San Antonio Spurs’ organization but he was not moved. The Spurs held onto their star and will attempt to get back to the postseason led by DeRozan.

The Spurs had a one-year hiatus from the postseason after dominating for the better part of two decades. Coming into the season, they were trying to get back and they are looking like postseason contenders in the Western Conference. The Spurs have some nice, young players but DeRozan is showing that he can still play the game at an extremely high level.

DeRozan is averaging 21.1 points and 7.2 assists per game. He is shooting 49.4% from the field. DeRozan has been one of the top threats from midrange this season and it is continuing to be that way this season. He opted into his contract for the final year and is earning $27.7 million this season.

Whether he was moved or not, DeRozan will have a nice payday before entering NBA free agency. He will not earn as much which means there will be some interested teams. It will be fascinating to see if the Spurs will be motivated to offer a multi-year deal given their prior reluctance. This will certainly be something to monitor in NBA rumors.

DeMar DeRozan will have plenty of options in the offseason and there are plenty of teams where he would fit. Here are three teams that could be interested in DeRozan once the season is complete.
