Why This Trade Would Benefit The Washington Wizards

The Washington Wizards have been linked to quite a few intriguing scenarios in NBA trade rumors as of late. It began when John Wall was sent to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Russell Westbrook. Since then, Bradley Beal has been the target of rumors but has not been moved just yet. This is a deal it would be on a smaller level but still productive for D.C.

Bertans has a large contract that he signed in the offseason. This would be a chance to dump that contract and take a short-term option in Harrell. The big man has just one year left on his deal. This means Washington would open up a lot of cap room and have a chance to add some more players.

This is mostly a financial move for Washington since they are not a team that is looking to win now. They have to rebuild the roster and that will take some time given the current make up. However, Montrezl Harrell would provide a helpful scoring balance with his interior presence.

Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook lead the way but they could be moved in the offseason as well. It will be interesting to see what the front office decides to do and which players they decide to build around. What they have attempted to do lately just hasn’t worked and it doesn’t appear set to chance anytime soon given the set of circumstances.

If the Wizards want to give it another try with Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal next season, they will need to get creative with how they are fielding the supporting cast. Thomas Bryant coming off an Achilles injury is not something that should be relied upon and Davis Bertans hasn’t gotten it done lately in Washington.
