This Rockets-Sixers offseason trade is centered on Eric Gordon

Does this trade make sense for the Philadelphia 76ers?

Eric Gordon is definitely a better scorer and all-around player than Seth Curry, but is he really worth paying $18M+ over the next three seasons? Honestly, the answer is probably no, which is why the Sixers should hold onto Seth Curry in this deal.

Giving up a second-round pick or George Hill does not matter much if they are getting Eric Gordon, but Curry is a great three-point shooter and one of the only reliable perimeter options on this Sixers team.

Ultimately, what this trade comes down to for the Sixers is whether or not adding Eric Gordon at the expense of Seth Curry gives this team a better edge to win games and a potential championship while paying Gordon about $10M more.

The reason the answer to this question is no is because while Gordon can potentially put up more points than Curry, that $10M extra can be used to acquire some key role players to fill out the remainder of the roster.

With the Sixers paying Embiid, Harris and Simmons a combined $100.4M next season, they do not have much room to bring in another $18M+ per year player, which is why for financial reasons and roster reasons, they should not pursue a trade for Eric Gordon. The only way they should go after Gordon is if he is bought out of his contract with the Rockets.
