Does this trade make sense for the Houston Rockets?
AIn the grand scheme of things, this trade actually does make a ton of sense for the Rockets for a couple of reasons. First, Gordon is under-contract through the 2023-24 season, with that year of his contract being non-guaranteed, and he is still owed a total of $58.7M over the next three years.
Taking this salary off their books and bringing in a smaller contract like Seth Curry’s could make a ton of sense for the Rockets as they rebuild.
Gordon is 32-years-old now and does not present much of a future with the Rockets, a team that is not contending for a playoff spot, which is why trading him now and freeing up his contract from their cap hits is useful for Houston.

In addition, getting a player like Seth Curry makes a lot of sense for the Rockets too because he is two years younger than Gordon and has been a key contributor to every team he has been on. Curry’s contract is very favorable too, as he is owed a total of $16.7M over the next two seasons.
Not to mention, they could easily acquire Seth Curry in the offseason and flip him or a draft pick or two at next season’s trade deadline. The options the Rockets get in this trade present much more of an upside than keeping Eric Gordon, which is why this trade definitely makes a ton of sense for the Rockets.
