Detroit Pistons

While they are one of the worst teams in the league record wise this season, the Detroit Pistons are actually not that bad of a basketball team. Injuries have played a big role in them struggling this year, as a bunch of their players have been in and out of the lineup all season long, but they have still been a very effective defensive team.

With the breakout season Jerami Grant has had, as well as rookies Saddiq Bey and Issiah Stewart looking like great young talents, there is a lot to like about the Pistons moving forward, which is why they could be thrilled to go after a young talent like John Collins in free agency.

While the Pistons have Grant and Bey at the forward positions and both Mason Plumlee and Isaiah Stewart in the frontcourt, John Collins could fit right in with this team due to all of the young, athletic players they have.

Finding that other high-level scorer to pair with Jerami Grant will be very important for the Pistons’ success moving forward and if they can get Collins long-term then they would have a really strong one-two punch in their forwards. Not to mention all of the surrounding talent around both Grant and Collins.

With about $8.6M in cap space entering the offseason, the Pistons would have to free up some cap space to sign John Collins to a big deal, but they could leverage Cory Joseph’s contract to free up the necessary cap space. If the Pistons wants Collins, they could definitely pursue him, but it would cost them quite a bit over the next several seasons.
