3 teams who should make a run at Lauri Markkanen in free agency

Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks have been searching for more high-level talents to pair with Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis and since their frontcourt is non-existent outside of Porzingis, it would make a ton of sense for them to entertain the idea of signing Markkanen. Not only is he a very similar player to Kristaps Porzingis, but he gives them yet another 7-footer who can stretch the floor and knock down shots from anywhere.

Not only is he a really solid rebounder, averaging 7.4 rebounds over the course of his career, but Lauri Markkanen’s ability to step out on the perimeter and knock down three-point jumpers is what makes him a very intriguing young player in NBA free agency, particularly for a team like the Mavericks.

Outside of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, there is really nobody that you can turn to on this Mavericks roster and feel comfortable with them being a high-level contributor on a possible championship-caliber team.

With Luka Doncic being their leader, the Mavericks are definitely a team to throw in the championship conversation year-in and year-out, but they are going to have to add more talent to match-up with the likes of the Lakers and Clippers in the Western Conference.

Since the Mavericks need more frontcourt help and will have about $21.1M in cap space, going after Markkanen makes a ton of sense because they get a player that can contribute immediately, but they would also still have enough cap space to bring in another key contributor.

Should Lauri Markkanen not want to return to the Bulls, the Dallas Mavericks are definitely a team that could be intrigued in him and the idea of pairing him with Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis.
