Boston Celtics Receive: F Jerami Grant, G/F Deividas Sirvydis

Detroit Pistons Receive: G Marcus Smart, G Payton Pritchard, G/F Romeo Langford, BOS 2021 1st Round Pick, BOS 2025 1st Round Pick (Top-10 Protected)

It seems like a real long-shot for the Celtics to be able to acquire Jerami Grant, but this is probably one of the better trade packages they can offer in terms of potential. Overall though, they may add another first-round pick to this deal and the Pistons would still opt to decline.

Detroit, even though they are in last place record wise in the league, has a really bright future and a ton of young players with a lot of potential moving forward. The Pistons have one of the youngest cores and one of the youngest roster in the entire league, so of course there are going to be learning curves and years like this year.

The best part about them having a ton of talent though and still being in last place is the fact that they will likely end up with a Top-5 pick in this year’s draft to add yet another high-level, high-potential prospect.

With Jerami Grant as the experienced leader of this team, the Pistons could be set up for a ton of success moving forward, which is why it would be wise for them to keep him, but this Celtics trade does bring them even more draft compensation and a two-way star in Marcus Smart.

Right now, Detroit’s goal is to continue building their roster with high-level, youthful talents, which is why Smart, Pritchard and Langford could all fit in with Detroit’s plans moving forward. Marcus Smart is only 27-years-old and has plenty of basketball left in him and both Pritchard and Langford are two young players with a solid amount of potential to grow into key rotational guys.

Along with two first-round picks, this trade definitely gives the Pistons more youthful, high-level talent, but the question that remains is if they want to keep Grant as their leader moving forward. Right now, the clear answer is yes and the Pistons have no intent on trading Grant, but in the offseason, if they are able to swing another deal to bring in even more talent, they could be willing to listen to offers for Jerami Grant.

With that said, let’s take a look at this trade from each team’s perspective and see if this trade truly makes sense for both the Detroit Pistons and the Boston Celtics.
