1. Boston Celtics
The Celtics have not had the season that was expected coming in. They are a middle of the pack team in the Eastern Conference and right on the cusp of the playoffs with a 23-24 record.
Luckily, that puts them also a game out of fourth place. The conference is top heavy and the Celtics were supposed to be a part of that. That has not been the case.
Boston is being crushed by depth and lack of ability in the front-court. Outside of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, the team has struggled to find an identity. Kemba Walker continues to be a strange fit, while Tristan Thompson has been underwhelming down low. At the deadline, the Celtics added Evan Fournier, but did not add a big man. This would be a chance to add one that they are familiar with.
Al Horford had some of his best years with the Celtics. He spent three years in Boston and averaged 13.5 points and seven rebounds. Horford was not asked to do too much and was not the focal point of the team. He was part of a team that was well balanced and had success in the postseason. This would be an interesting reunion to see happen.
It all comes down to if Danny Ainge is willing to take on the contract. The Celtics certainly have some leverage in the deal because not many teams are going to give up much. Ainge would be able to work some more magic and get a big man to improve the front-court.
