The Minnesota Timberwolves have been stuck struggling over the last few years. No matter what they have tried to get out of the rut, it hasn’t worked. Now, the team could look to trade both Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell in the offseason to start over with new talent.
One NBA exec spoke to NBA Analysis Network about the potential for big trades in Minnesota. He mentioned both Towns and Russell as potential trade options for the franchise.
“For the Timberwolves, there are going to be a lot of questions in the offseason. Trading both Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell is a real option. Both of them are going to be available and if the right offer is there, Minnesota will move them to begin fresh.”
Towns has been mentioned in a ton of trade rumors over the last couple of years. Russell has also been a name that has been heard in rumors. Trading both of them would be a catastrophic change, but the Timberwolves need to do something.
Plenty of teams would have interest in trading for both of these guys. Towns is having his usual massive season, averaging 24.1 points per game to go along with 10.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists. He is one of the most underrated superstars in the NBA.
As for D’Angelo Russell, the Timberwolves should be able to get good value as well. Russell has only played in 20 games this season, averaging 19.3 points, 5.1 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game. He hasn’t had the best year, but there is no question that he is capable of being an offensive star.
It will be interesting to see what the T-Wolves actually end up doing this offseason. Despite the rumors, the franchise has tried hard to keep Karl-Anthony Towns as the face of their franchise. They would rather not trade him, but the situation may force a move.
Expect to continue hearing rumors about the Timberwolves as the offseason draws closer. Minnesota could look much, much different next year.
