Phoenix Suns Receive: C Karl-Anthony Towns

Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: C DeAndre Ayton, F Dario Saric, F Jalen Smith, PHX 2021 1st Round Pick, PHX 2023 1st Round Pick, PHX 2024 1st Round Pick (Swap, More Favorable Pick)

This is just a glimpse of what a Karl-Anthony Towns trade could potentially look like and the Phoenix Suns may have to even throw in another first-round pick for Minnesota to even consider trading the face of their franchise!

The Phoenix Suns have been one of the best storylines of the 2020-21 NBA season to this point and they have not only put themselves in the playoff picture, but in the conversation for a potential championship. The acquisition of Chris Paul before the season is shaping up to be one of the best moves the Suns have ever made as an organization and while he may not have the stats to back it up, he should be very much in the conversation for league MVP because of how much he has impacted this organization.

He has helped elevate this team to being a championship caliber team and with Devin Booker by his side in the backcourt, the Suns are going to be a very dangerous team come playoff time. Right now, the Phoenix Suns hold the 4th best record in the entire league and are one of three teams to rank inside the Top-10 in both Offensive and Defensive Efficiency.

DeAndre Ayton has been a really solid, young center for them that is continuing to elevate his play, but Karl-Anthony Towns is a much better overall talent than Ayton and quite honestly, probably always will be.

Having the ability to bring in Towns and pair him with CP3 and Booker would not only give the Suns three All-Star players, but one of the top trios in the entire league. Paul is one of the best passers in the league, Booker is one of the best pure scorers and Towns is one of the best finishers, making the Suns an even better team than they already are now. An aggressive pursuit of a third star by the Suns will be something to track in NBA trade rumors.

Roster wise, this trade would take a toll on them, as they would have to give up Sixth-Man Dario Saric and Jalen Smith, their recent first-round pick that they are high on, but having the chance to add Towns to their roster may be too much to pass up on.

If KAT becomes available in trade talks, the Phoenix Suns should be willing to give up anything other than Chirs Paul and Devin Booker to try to acquire him because he may be the missing piece in their championship equation. Not only would they have one of the deadliest trios in the league, but they would immediately become the team to beat in the Western Conference.

With that said, let’s take a look at why this trade could make sense for both the Phoenix Suns and the Minnesota Timberwolves, especially if Towns does become available in trade talks and the T-Wolves look to move him in the offseason.
