The Brooklyn Nets recently made headlines for signing former NBA All-Star Blake Griffin after he reached a buyout agreement with the Detroit Pistons. They are not finished as LaMarcus Aldridge is expected to sign with the them in the near future.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, LaMarcus Aldridge plans to sign with the Brooklyn Nets. He recently agreed to a contract buyout with the San Antonio Spurs.

The Nets were not originally thought of as being a potential suitor for the top remaining buyout candidates like Andre Drummond and Aldridge. In fact, many considered the Miami Heat as being the top option for Aldridge — even being able to offer a starting role.

There’s a lot to like about what the Nets have managed to accomplish since depleting their depth to trade for James Harden from the Houston Rockets. They already had all of the perimeter firepower in Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving before but with Harden, they have an incredible trio.

The Nets did not just remain satisfied with the superstar trio they had formed . Instead, they now have added two former NBA All-Star forwards in Blake Griffin and Aldridge who can help the team to punish mismatches on switches and to provide play finishing from deep and in the paint.

With the Spurs deciding to go with younger frontcourt options, Aldridge has managed to remain more rested than he’s been in previous seasons. He averaged 33.1 minutes per game in 2019-20 but that has since dropped to 25.9 per game before he ultimately was removed from their plans. This made him a key name to monitor in NBA rumors.

LaMarcus Aldridge remained productive in the 21 appearances he made with the San Antonio Spurs. He averaged 13.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists while shooting 46.4% from the field, 36.0% from beyond the arc, and 83.8% on free throws.
