The Boston Celtics, in what has become a regular fashion, make calls for trades but not much comes to fruition. Evan Fournier is a solid player, but he doesn’t move the needle much to push them back toward contender status in the Eastern Conference.

The Celtics were in the market for a big man and were rumored to have almost closed a deal with the Indiana Pacers for Myles Turner. They were unable to trade for LaMarcus Aldridge and failed to land him in the buyout market, too.

The Celtics fell well short of the mark when it comes to acquiring a big man, as they acquired Luke Kornet and Moritz Wagner in a three-team deal with the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards. However, the best big man in that deal, Daniel Thies, was traded away by Boston to Chicago.

It was a head-scratching move by Boston, as Thies has been a solid player for them in recent years. The only reason this move makes sense is if it means more playing time for Robert Williams, but even if that is why they could have moved on from Tristan Thompson instead.
