The NBA trade deadline has come and gone, but the buyout market is just getting ready to heat up. Plenty of big names are available, but one name flying under-the-radar is veteran point guard Jeff Teague. A lot of teams could use a player like him, but the Milwaukee Bucks and Chicago Bulls are two teams to keep a close eye on.
An NBA agent, who requested to remain anonymous, spoke to Evan Massey of NBA Analysis Network and mentioned that the Bucks and Bulls are expected to pursue signing Teague.
“(Jeff) Teague is going to have a solid market around the league. Two teams who are going to pursue him are Milwaukee and Chicago. Both teams need guard depth and Teague would be a great fit and the best option for them.”
Teague was dealt by the Boston Celtics at the trade deadline in the deal that netted them Evan Fournier. He had a solid season with the franchise, but being able to acquire a talent like Fournier made him expendable.
In the 34 games and five starts that Teague played with the Celtics, he ended up averaging 6.9 points per game to go along with 2.1 assists. He shot 41.5 percent from the floor overall and knocked down 46.4 percent of his three-point attempts.
Looking at the Bucks and Bulls, both teams make perfect sense for Jeff Teague. Milwaukee traded away veteran guard DJ Augustin in the PJ Tucker deal and need some guard depth. As for the Bulls, they tried to pull off a trade for Lonzo Ball, but came up short and could use a veteran point guard.
At this point in time, the Bucks would be the most logical landing spot for Teague. They are legitimate NBA Finals contenders. On the other hand, the Bulls may be able to open up a bigger role for Teague.
Another team to keep an eye on when it comes to Teague on the buyout market is the Charlotte Hornets. LaMelo Ball may return at some point this season, but the fractured wrist that he suffered leaves the Hornets needing quality guard depth behind Terry Rozier and Devonte’ Graham.
Expect to see quite a few teams come forward with an offer for Jeff Teague. Don’t be surprised if he ends up with the Bucks or Bulls when everything is said and done.
