Why This Is A Good Trade For Miami
This is a good trade for the Miami Heat because it allows them to add a veteran wing presence for next to nothing. The Heat aren’t in the business of stockpiling prospects to build for the future, but rather they are in position to win now.
The Heat started the season slower than molasses, but more recently they’ve been playing well enough to be a top five seed in the Eastern Conference. The Heat need depth on the wing and there may not be a better affordable option on the market than Wayne Ellington.
Ellington, this season, is averaging 10.6 points per game, 1.8 total rebounds per game, and 1.4 assists per game for the struggling Pistons, but a change of scenery could help him thrive. He has also shot 45.8 percent from the floor overall and has knocked down 43.1 percent of his three-point attempts.
If Miami makes this move, they would be thanking themselves in the postseason. Ellington could be a big-time addition on the perimeter and a piece that helps power the Heat towards another deep playoff run.
