Nuggets agree to trade for Cavaliers’ big man JaVale McGee

The Denver Nuggets have been actively scouring the trade market with the NBA trade deadline drawing close. Now, they have been able to find a trade partner and have made a deal. They will acquire center JaVale McGee from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

According to a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Nuggets and Cavaliers are finalizing an agreement. McGee will join a contender and will be a valuable front-court depth piece for the Nuggets.

McGee is no stranger to Denver, as he played three and a half seasons with the Nuggets earlier in his career. Being able to return to the franchise and help them compete in the Western Conference will be something he welcomes.

So far this season with the Cavaliers, McGee performed well in a very limited role. He has averaged 8.0 points per game to go along with 5.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks. McGee has shot 52.1 percent from the floor.

This isn’t a move that will power the Nuggets to the NBA Finals. However, it will give them much-needed depth for a seven-game series in the playoffs.

While he has been made fun of a lot throughout his NBA career, JaVale McGee has developed into a very good role player. He may still have his “Shaqtin-A-Fool” moments, but he can make an impact on a game. The Nuggets won’t be asking for a ton from him, but having another capable body in the front-court is important.

It will be interesting to see what the rest of the trade deadline holds for the Nuggets and Cavaliers. Denver has also been rumored to be aggressively pursuing a trade for Orlando Magic star Aaron Gordon.

Expect to see the Nuggets remain active ahead of the deadline. Acquiring McGee is a solid move, but they would still like to make a splash if possible.
