Why This Trade Would Benefit The Indiana Pacers
This is a good trade for the Indiana Pacers because it allows them to invest in their future. While the Pacers are certainly in playoff contention this season, they could be better suited to build for their future this year and gear up for a longer run in the years to come.
The team is going to have to decide between building around Myles Turner or Domantas Sabonis at some point. Bringing in Patrick Williams helps them to have a power forward answer long-term and opens up the trade options for one of their centers.
The Pacers would be losing their starting point guard and solid backup shooting guard in this trade, but they would score two first round picks (one of which is in the top five picks) and Otto Porter Jr.

Porter Jr, 27, would provide the Pacers with a very solid small forward to help add some depth to the team behind Doug McDermott and TJ Warren. He could be re-signed if he’s interested in coming back and a much more favorable deal.
The future is bright in Indiana and adding a 2021 top five pick would help the Pacers be in legitimate title contention as soon as next season if they make this deal. Making this trade would surely put the Pacers in great shape going forward.
