Pacers, Knicks have serious interest in Raptors’ wing Norman Powell

The Toronto Raptors are open for business ahead of the NBA trade deadline with Kyle Lowry and Norman Powell being the two names most mentioned in rumors. Powell is one of the most intriguing potential targets and has been playing top-notch basketball this season. Both the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks are interested in him.

According to a report from Marc Berman of the New York Post, the Knicks are monitoring Powell closely and the Pacers are very interested as well.

Here are a couple of clips from the report about the two teams’ varying levels of interest.

While the Raptors are shopping point guard Kyle Lowry, the Knicks have much more interest in Powell, who is expected to opt out to become an unrestricted free agent following the season.

However, league sources contend the Pacers are willing to overpay Powell in free agency and perhaps outbid the field.

From that report, it is unclear whether the Pacers are pursuing a trade for Norman Powell or whether they are waiting until the offseason. Either way, the Knicks could make a very aggressive offer to bring him in at the deadline.

Everything will depend on what kind of price tag the Raptors have for Powell. Neither the Pacers or Knicks should overpay for him. They would not be guaranteed to have him for more than the second half of this season.

So far this season with the Raptors, Powell has averaged 19.5 points per game to go along with 3.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists. He has shot 49.5 percent from the floor overall and has knocked down 43.4 percent of his three-point attempts.

At 27 years of age, Powell would be a good addition for both the Knicks and Pacers. If they can get him locked up to a multi-year deal, a trade before the deadline would make sense. On the other hand, waiting until free agency would make sense as well.
