Why This Trade Would Benefit The Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors have regressed this season. Kyle Lowry has been one of the best players in franchise history but at 34-years-old, it is hard to imagine that he is a part of the future. Since he is on an expiring contract, it makes sense for the Raptors to attempt to get something for him.

It is very likely that Lowry gets moved. He has been one of the most popular names in trade rumors to this point. The Raptors made it a priority in the offseason to sign Fred VanVleet to a contract. They were able to get a four-year, $80 million deal done with their new point guard of the future.

The Raptors also lost some pieces in the offseason. Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka both left in free agency and this has caused problems. The team is not as complete as they want to work and that is showing so far this season.

This is a smart financial move for the Raptors considering the money that Lowry is making. He will certainly sign a much smaller deal in the offseason but the Raptors have made it clear that they are moving in a different direction. They have many teams interested in their point guard so now they just have to decide which deal is the best.
