3 last-minute trade targets for Spurs before the deadline

After missing the playoffs for the first time since the 1996-97 season, the San Antonio Spurs have some major decisions to make as an organization. LaMarcus Aldridge and the Spurs have decided to part ways and they are trying to work on a trade before the NBA trade deadline for him, but they also have a decision to make about DeMar DeRozan’s future with the franchise.

The 4x All-Star is in the final year of his contract and has been linked to a couple of teams in recent trade rumors. DeRozan’s trade market is not huge, but trading him away could bring a ton of value to the Spurs, the only question is whether or not they view that they need him to make a strong playoff push this year.

San Antonio has kind of flown under the radar this year and nobody seems to be talking about them even though they are 22-18 and in the Western Conference playoff picture. They are not that strong of an offensive team, but the Spurs are one of the better defensive teams in the league, which has led them to a solid amount of success to this point in the season.

With plenty of younger players stepping up into bigger roles with San Antonio this year, they definitely have a chance to be something special moving forward, the only question is if they will look to “buy” more talent to aid them in their playoff push this year or will they look to “sell” guys like Aldridge and DeRozan.
