Miami Heat Receive: F LaMarcus Aldridge

San Antonio Spurs Receive: F/C Kelly Olynyk, F Andre Iguodala, MIA 2022 1st Round Pick

The biggest question mark about a LaMarcus Aldridge trade right now is how much value are the Spurs looking to get in return for the veteran forward? He is 35-years old and in the final year of his contract, plus he wants out of San Antonio so teams may not be willing to pay the price the Spurs are asking for.

As a result, the best trade the Miami Heat could probably offer includes both Kelly Olynyk and Andre Iguodala, as well as a first-round pick. Honestly, the Heat could probably get away with offering one or two second-round picks for Aldridge, but for the sake of making this the ‘best trade scenario,’ we included the Heat’s 2022 first-round pick.

With the Spurs still being in the playoff picture and looking to start a new playoff streak this year, it could make a lot of sense for them to be interested in two experienced veterans like Andre Iguodala and Kelly Olynyk.

Andre Iguodala is still a great defensive player and a very solid all-around player. He will not bring as much production in terms of scoring like Aldridge, but he is more than capable of finding open guys to pass to and grabbing rebounds. Kelly Olynyk is also another high-impact veteran talent that could help the Spurs get to the playoffs this year.

Olynyk is currently averaging 10.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and is shooting 32.8% from three-point range this season. Given the Spurs’ need for more perimeter shooting and a stretch big man, Kelly Olynyk could join this organization and immediately make an impact. For his career, Olynyk has shot 36.6% from three-point range and could be a great pick-and-roll threat for San Antonio. They mainly play though their guards and wings anyways, so they do not really need a standout big man.

The addition of LaMarcus Aldridge would definitely be impactful for the Miami Heat, especially since they do not have another reliable big man outside of Bam Adebayo. Kelly Olynyk has been solid for the Heat, but he is not much of a rebounding threat and low-post scoring threat like Aldridge is.

Adding another frontcourt player could be extremely important for the Heat’s chances of success, especially since Jimmy Butler has been forced to play the “power-forward” role at times this season. Getting LaMarcus Aldridge not only allows Butler to move back to the wing, but allows the Heat to be a better, more efficient team overall.

If the Heat can get away with trading two experienced role players for LaMarcus Aldridge, this would be a big win for them given what Aldridge has done over the course of his career, the only question though is whether or not the Spurs would be comfortable with this kind of value for the veteran big man. Now, let’s take a closer look at why this trade makes sense for both the Spurs and the Heat.
