Does this trade make sense for the New Orleans Pelicans?
Trading Lonzo Ball could definitely make sense for the Pelicans, but trading him for Marcus Morris, Reggie Jackson and two second-round picks does not make much sense. If the Pels are going to trade Ball, they would definitely want a proven, third scoring option and a solid amount of draft compensation.
Two second-round picks is not good draft compensation for a highly skilled player like Ball and Marcus Morris Sr. is nothing more than a really solid, veteran role player. Nothing about this trade scenario brings value to the Pelicans, which is why they would likely opt to decline this deal with the Clippers.
Earlier in the season, the Pelicans made Lonzo Ball, J.J. Redick and Josh Hart available in trade talks, but it seems like they are only willing to move Redick now. Both Ball and Hart have been playing much better since being mentioned in trade rumors and with the Pelicans just a few games back from the playoff picture, it would not be wise for them to shake things up roster wise unless they would be acquiring a third All-Star talent.

Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram are the two leaders of the Pelicans, but they can only take this team so far. Other guys on the roster will have to step up in big moments in order for this team to reach the playoffs, which is why trading Lonzo Ball in this trade scenario does not make much sense at all for the Pelicans long-term.
There are plenty of other teams interested in the young point guard and can probably offer much better deals than the Clippers can, which is why if New Orleans is looking to trade Ball, they should do so with another team who can offer up the value they want in return.
