Why This Trade Would Benefit The Minnesota Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves originally brought Russell to Minnesota in hopes of keeping Towns in good spirits. The two are close friends which means they want to play together at some point. Right now, Minnesota is not the right situation for either. both players would be good fits elsewhere, including New York, but this deal just involves Russell.
Minnesota is a rebuilding team and doing it from the ground up. This is where the Knicks could help with some draft picks from the Mavericks. They would also benefit from adding some young players that could use a change of scenery. This is Ntilikina. The former eighth-overall pick is a bust with the Knicks and could use a situation where there is less pressure.
Obi Toppin has been a strange fit for the Knicks and has not been able to truly show what he is capable of. Burks is a low-risk move because of his contract situation. Ultimately, the Timberwolves need an overhaul and this is a deal that could get it done.
