This Knicks-Timberwolves trade is focused on D’Angelo Russell

The New York Knicks have been one of the surprise teams in the NBA to this point. They are in the playoff race in the second half of the season, which is something we did not expect to say. They have been quiet recently in the offseason. This could change if they want to add that star player to the roster.

This is where the Knicks could contact the Minnesota Timberwolves. They are currently near the bottom of the league and in last place in the Western Conference. Minnesota has nowhere to go but up in the future but it is not going to happen anytime soon. This is why we have seen names like Karl-Anthony Towns in NBA trade rumors.

The Timberwolves could be interested in a complete rebuild. D’Angelo Russell could be one of the names on the trading block. He has been moved around in his career and it is unlikely that Minnesota will be his long-term home.

New York has taken a step forward this season with Tom Thibodeau at head coach. This means they have done it on the defensive end of the floor. Julius Randle was named to the All-Star team while R.J. Barrett and Immanuel Quickly are looking like the real deal early in their careers.

This means the Knicks have a young core to build around and Randle adds to that if he is going to sign an extension. With that being said, the Knicks need that next-level player to continue to grow. This is where Russell could come into play.

It would be interesting to see D’Angelo Russell back in New York. This time, it would be with the Knicks. Here is a potential NBA trade deadline deal that could get it done.
