The Brooklyn Nets have been very active making midseason moves to improve their roster around James Harden, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving. Blake Griffin was signed following his buyout from the Detroit Pistons and the Nets have been rumored to be interested in trading for Houston Rockets forward PJ Tucker. That may not be the case anymore.

According to a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Nets are “no longer” believed to be in the mix for a Tucker trade.

The Nets had pursued Tucker, a deal that would have required injured starting guard Spencer Dinwiddie’s contract, but sources say Brooklyn is no longer believed to be involved in the Tucker market. The Nets recently signed six-time All-Star Blake Griffin to bolster the front court.

This news should not come as much of a surprise. If the Nets were to trade for Tucker, they would have to give up value. Reports have made it clear that the Rockets may be trying to ask for too much for Tucker.

Not to mention, Tucker has not been very good this season with the Rockets. He still brings intangibles that don’t show up on the stat sheet, but his shooting has not been nearly as good as it was in years past. His status as an elite 3-and-D forward is not what it used to be.

So far this season with the Rockets, Tucker has averaged just 4.4 points per game to go along with 4.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 0.9 steals. He has shot just 31.4 percent from the three-point line.

Following the move to sign Griffin, the Nets do not have as big of a need in the front-court. Griffin may not be the star that he once was, but he will still be a solid presence for Brooklyn.

Plenty of other teams still have interest in trading for PJ Tucker at the right price. Among those teams are the Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks. Tucker should still be expected to be traded before the deadline.

Expect to hear more rumors surrounding Tucker in the coming days, but don’t expect the Nets to try to make a trade for him.
