Miami Heat interested in trade for Bulls forward Thaddeus Young

The Miami Heat started the 2020-21 NBA season off very slowly and many were very concerned with how the team was playing. In recent weeks, however, the team has started turning things around. Now, it appears the team would like to make a trade ahead of the upcoming NBA trade deadline and Chicago Bulls veteran forward Thaddeus Young could be a potential target.

As the deadline continues drawing closer, the Heat will have to figure out their needs. One need that many believe needs to be filled is the role that Jae Crowder played last season. Crowder was an excellent do-it-all power forward in most lineups last year.

While Young is not the three-point threat that Crowder was, he would still be a great fit. He can defend at a high level, get to the rim, and is the type of “glue guy” that every serious contender needs to have.

One former NBA executive spoke out on the Heat’s potential interest in trading for Young.

“There are a lot of players the Heat could pursue, but they really like Thaddeus Young. If the Bulls make him available, Miami will be a potential landing spot. Young would slide in perfectly and could be the two-way player that takes the Heat back to a deep postseason run.”

So far this season with the Bulls, Young has been arguably the best player on the roster outside of Zach LaVine. He has averaged 12.2 points per game to go along with 6.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.3 steals. Young has shot 60.5 percent from the floor and 22.7 percent from three-point range.

Obviously, he isn’t a good three-point shooter. But, the Heat do not need a three-point shooter. They need a do-it-all player who can bring the team together on both ends of the court.

His shooting percentage shows just how disciplined of a player Thaddeus Young has been this season for the Bulls. He can’t shoot from the perimeter, but he is extremely efficient with his shot selection. The Heat should not shy away from him simply because he isn’t a threat from three-point range.

It will be interesting to see what the Heat end up doing ahead of the trade deadline. They could very well stand pat, but Young would be a quality upgrade.

Expect to hear a lot more rumors surrounding the Heat in the coming days. If the Bulls decide to discuss Young in trade talks, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Miami come calling.
