The New York Knicks have been active in the rumor mill ahead of the NBA trade deadline. While they have not been super aggressive in trade talks in recent days, they are interested in making a move if the right one presents itself. That could come in the form of an Andre Drummond buyout from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

According to a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Knicks have been exploring the idea of signing Drummond to a multi-year contract if the Cavaliers end up buying him out of his contract.

The Knicks have also explored the possibility of adding Drummond, and potentially offering him a multiyear deal as a free agent via buyout, sources said.

Drummond would be a very intriguing addition for this Knicks’ team. He would provide elite rebounding and solid rim protection. However, his offensive game is limited and he might not be the best fit in the front-court alongside Julius Randle.

While he hasn’t played in quite some time with the Cavaliers, there are a lot of teams with interest in signing him should he get bought out. Two of the other teams who have been mentioned as potential landing spots are the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets.

Should he end up securing a buyout from the Cavaliers, the Knicks would be an intriguing option. If they’re truly willing to offer him a lucrative multi-year contract, it seems likely he would strongly consider their offer.

In the 25 games he has played this season with the Cavaliers, Andre Drummond averaged 17.5 points per game to go along with 13.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.2 blocks. He shot 47.4 percent from the floor.

New York has been a big surprise this season and is currently a legitimate a playoff contender in the Eastern Conference. At the time of this writing, they hold a 20-19 record, which is good enough to make them the No. 7 seed in the conference.

Expect to continue hearing more rumors about the Knicks in the coming days. The trade deadline is quickly approaching, but signing Andre Drummond following a buyout might be the best case scenario for New York.
