Tristan Thompson, Celtics

The Boston Celtics have been one of the most active teams in the NBA rumor mill with the trade deadline approaching quickly. While most of the rumors have suggested that they could look to bring in a big name, they also could be looking to move some of their own players. One name to keep an eye on is veteran big man Tristan Thompson.

According to a report from Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports, the Celtics are open to moving Thompson before the deadline. He mentioned the Toronto Raptors as a team who are interested in acquiring him.

League sources said the Boston Celtics could trade their starting center by the March 25 trade deadline with the Toronto Raptors being a possible destination.

Thompson was one of the big offseason additions for the Celtics. They were hoping that he would be able to come in and give them the rebounding and defensive-minded center that they have been missing. While he has not been bad, he has not been the answer in Boston.

So far this season in 36 games with the Celtics, Thompson has averaged 7.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. He has not been much of a defensive presence. Moving on from him would make a lot of sense.

Granted, the Celtics aren’t going to move him just for the sake of making a trade. They would have to get something that they feel would help them this season or help them swing another trade in the future.

It is also interesting to note that the Raptors have interest in trading for Tristan Thompson. They need some help in their front-court and Thompson could be a good fit. However, there is no telling what they would have to give up to get him.

All of that being said, it will be interesting to see what the Celtics end up doing at the trade deadline. Thompson may not end up being moved, but it certainly is something they’re open to.
