Earlier this season, the New York Knicks were rumored to be open to trading forward Julius Randle. With the NBA trade deadline drawing closer, that is not the case anymore. In fact, there is no chance they will move him.
According to a report from Ian Begley of SNY, the Knicks have made Randle “off limits” in trade discussions leading up to the deadline.
Ian Begley of SNY reported Randle will be “off limits in any talks” unless they can get a top player in return for a trade. The team reportedly considers him an “essential” part of the organization going forward along with RJ Barrett.
Randle absolutely should be off limits for the Knicks. Over the past few years, the franchise has struggled to find any success. Now, they are a legitimate playoff contender and Randle just made his first career All-Star game appearance.
So far this season with the Knicks, Randle has averaged an impressive 22.8 points per game to go along with 11.0 rebounds and 5.6 assists. He has become a true star in the NBA. Randle has shot 48 percent from the floor overall and has knocked down 41.2 percent of his three-point attempts.
Not only has Randle improved as a scorer himself, he has improved as a creator for his teammates. The best stars make their teammates better around them. That is exactly what the Knicks are seeing from Randle.
At just 26 years old, there is still plenty of room for Julius Randle to improve. That alone should make the Knicks want to keep him. He is the kind of player that they can build around moving forward and that other stars around the league may want to come play with.
It has been a long time since there was excitement in Madison Squared Garden. And while fans still aren’t allowed to come out in full force, there is a buzz growing surrounding the Knicks. That buzz would go away if New York was to trade Randle.
All of that being said, the Knicks are not trading Randle. Everyone can breathe a sigh of relief. He is not available.
