This past offseason, the Detroit Pistons made what is shaping up to be the best free agent signing of the season when they signed Jerami Grant to a three-year, $60M deal. Grant had a really solid season last year with the Denver Nuggets and after some impressive performances in the NBA Bubble, Detroit decided to make him their “star” player.

Everybody knew Jerami Grant was a really solid player, but not many were expecting to see him have the breakout season that he has. Through 33 games, Grant is averaging 23.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and is shooting 36.3% from three-point range. While the Pistons are currently in last-place in the Eastern Conference, this organization has a lot of high-potential, young players and in a couple seasons, they could be a very tough team to play.

With the Celtics reportedly being highly interested in Jerami Grant though, could the Pistons look to trade their breakout star? It seems highly unlikely and the front-office has shot down any rumors saying they have taken calls on Grant, but his value is at an all-time-high and with the Celtics having plenty of draft compensation and young talent to offer up, it could be worth hearing their offer out. 

Just the other day, President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge hoped on 98.5 The Sports Hub and said he would “most likely” wait until the offseason to use the team’s $28.5M trade exception. The Celtics received this massive traded-player exception when they executed a sign-and-trade with Gordon Hayward to the Hornets.

Boston has been rumored to be targeting numerous high-level talents that they could absorb with this massive trade exception, Jerami Grant being at the top of their list of targeted players. At this point, it seems like a longshot that Boston could potentially acquire Grant, but it is never a bad time to speculate what could be offered up. 

With that said, let’s take a look at one of the best trades the Boston Celtics could offer the Pistons in attempts to acquire Jerami Grant.
