The Boston Celtics are without question a team to keep a close eye on ahead of the upcoming NBA trade deadline. Rumors have been swirling about potential trade targets for them and now a new name has been added to that list. That name would be San Antonio Spurs veteran forward Lamarcus Aldridge.
Recently, it was reported that Aldridge and the Spurs have agreed to part ways. That has led to the Spurs looking to trade the veteran star.
One team that has been needing an upgrade in the front-court is the Celtics. They currently have Daniel Theis and Tristan Thompson, but they want an upgrade for the stretch run of the season. Aldridge would certainly be an upgrade for them.
So far this season in 21 games and 18 starts with the Spurs, Aldridge has averaged 13.7 points per game to go along with 4.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists. He has shot 46.4 percent from the floor and has knocked down 36 percent of his three-point attempts.
Bringing in a stretch big is a must for the Celtics. They need a big man who can score in the post and step out to knock down the three. Once again, Aldridge would be a perfect fit for Boston.
Now, how could the Celtics make a deal with the Spurs to bring Aldridge on board? This suggested trade would make too much sense for Boston.

If the Celtics are wanting to go all-in on winning now, LaMarcus Aldridge is a move that they should make. Thompson has been solid for them, but he isn’t a true answer in the front-court. Moving him and a second-round pick for Aldridge is a no-brainer.
Even at 35 years old, Aldridge is garnering a lot of interest on the trade market. While the Celtics have not been reported to be pursuing a trade right now, it would make too much sense for them to not get involved.
Needless to say, it will be interesting to see what happens with Aldridge and the Spurs at the trade deadline. Aldridge is going to be moved, but no one knows where. The Miami Heat are a team that has been rumored to be aggressive in discussion for Aldridge so far.
Expect to hear a lot more rumors before a move is made. Don’t be surprised if the Celtics get heavily involved in trade talks with the Spurs.
