The Houston Rockets are one of the most active teams ahead of the upcoming NBA trade deadline. Players like John Wall, Eric Gordon, Victor Oladipo, and PJ Tucker have all been mentioned in rumors. While Oladipo and Tucker seem likely to be traded, Wall is a name to keep an eye on as well.
After being acquired in the offseason trade that sent Russell Westbrook out of town, Wall has seen a resurgence in Houston. He has looked like a star once again for the Rockets.
According to a report from Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, the Rockets will likely be fielding trade calls for Wall. He does mention that Houston will not be “shopping” their star point guard though.
“I definitely don’t think he (Rockets general manager Rafael Stone) is shopping Wall. There will be calls on Wall, however. The Rockets will be active in talks and eventually in making deals, but I would consider him down the list of those likely to be moved.”
Wall may not be viewed as likely to move, but the Rockets won’t hesitate if they are offered a good trade. They are in no position to compete right now. If they can get some good young pieces for Wall, they should strongly consider that option.
So far this season in 25 games with the Rockets, John Wall has averaged 21.0 points per game to go along with 6.0 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 0.9 steals. He has shot 42.4 percent from the floor and 34 percent from the three-point line.
Most importantly, Wall has regained his explosion. Many were concerned about that following an injury-riddled past couple of years in Washington. Wall is back to being a franchise caliber player.
At 30 years of age, Wall still has some good basketball left in him as well. He still has one full year left on his contract and a player option for a second year. If anyone were to trade for him, Wall would be a long-term option.
Expect to continue hearing rumors about the Rockets in the coming days and weeks. The trade deadline is going to be busy and Houston could be open for business on Wall.
