Kyle Lowry Gets Traded To The Philadelphia 76ers

Because of Kyle Lowry’s $30 million expiring contract, it’s possible the Toronto Raptors would consider jettisoning the Philly native to his hometown team. The 76ers, on the brink of a serious Finals push, would be an ideal trade partner.

Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reported last week that there may be some mutual interest between the 76ers and Lowry. If he opts to not finish the 2020-21 campaign with the Raptors, it appears an agreement could be made. Sources say that the front office would honor his request if he believes that he has a better chance to win another ring elsewhere, though they would likely expect draft picks and other assets in return.

The Raptors could’ve let Fred VanVleet walk readily into another franchise last offseason. Instead, they rewarded him with a four-year, $85 million contract to preserve one of the best backcourts in the NBA.

VanVleet played a huge role during the Raptors’ 2019 title run and last year’s 53-19 season, averaging 18.8 points, 6.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.8 steals in 36.2 minutes per game. The 27-year-old guard has certainly paid his dues to take over as the Raptors’ lead ball handler, and the longevity of his contract suggests that the organization would be on board.
