The Charlotte Hornets have been a pleasant surprise in the Eastern Conference this season, currently holding a 17-18 record. That has them in the No. 7 seed in the conference coming out of the All-Star break. Now, the Hornets seem interested in bolstering their roster and have interest in trading for Orlando Magic shooting guard Evan Fournier.

That news comes after a report from Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer.

League sources say the Hornets are among teams to express interest in Fournier, while the Nuggets have inquired about Ross. Orlando will have options. It’s just a matter of whether teams pay up.

Fournier is a very underrated player who could plug right into the lineup for the Hornets. Even though they already have a stacked back-court, he would be able to become an instant starter. He can score the ball well and is a good teammate as well.

So far this season with the Magic, Fournier has averaged 18.5 points per game to go along with 3.8 assists and 3.1 rebounds. He has shot 45 percent from the floor overall and has knocked down 37.1 percent of his three-point attempts.

Those number show why a team like the Hornets would have interest in him. He can score, is a willing teammate, and can shoot the three-ball well. Charlotte needs players who can do all of those things.

Most interestingly, this kind of trade could indicate other moves from the Hornets. They currently have a stacked back-court with LaMelo Ball, Devonte Graham, and Terry Rozier. One of those guys, obviously not Ball, could be moved if Fournier is acquired.

At 28 years of age, Evan Fournier is in the final year of his current contract. That could mean that this trade would be a half-year rental. Depending on the price tag, that should not deter the Hornets from making a deal with the Magic.

Expect to hear quite a few more rumors surrounding Fournier in the coming days. He is a hot commodity on the market and seems likely to be moved. A trade between the Magic and Hornets would not be surprising at all.
