Victor Oladipo remains ‘in play’ for Knicks at trade deadline

Victor Oladipo is a name that has drawn a lot of interest from around the NBA with the trade deadline drawing closer. One of the teams with interest in acquiring the Houston Rockets’ star guard is the New York Knicks. That still seems to be the case at this point in time.

According to a report from the New York Post, Oladipo remains “in play” for the Knicks with the trade deadline right around the corner.

Oladipo, however, remains in play for the Knicks as the Rockets are expected to trade him at the deadline as they slide into oblivion. Oladipo will be a free agent in 2021 and reportedly wants to sign with the Heat. That would make Oladipo a rental as the Knicks look to boost their bid to snap a seven-year playoff drought.

Like the article states, the only thing that makes this trade a major risk is the fact that Oladipo is in the final year of his contract. He wants to find his way to the Miami Heat, which would make the Knicks think about making this trade with the knowledge that it would only be for half of a season.

Depending on what the asking price is from the Rockets, the Knicks should still consider pulling the trigger on this deal.

At the time of this writing, the Knicks have a 19-18 record and are the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. That is quite a bit better than many were expecting from them heading into the All-Star break.

Oladipo has played in 15 games with the Rockets since being acquired from the Indiana Pacers. He has averaged 19.9 points per game to go along with 4.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists. In addition to those averages, he has shot 38.7 percent from the floor and 31.3 percent from the three-point line.

Those numbers aren’t amazing, but they would look good in the back-court for the Knicks. Victor Oladipo would add a much-needed scoring option who can create his own shot as well as create for others. It is a deal that would make sense and perhaps the Knicks could even convince Oladipo to stick around past this season.

Expect to hear a ton of rumors surrounding the Knicks moving forward. They are looking to make an impact move and Oladipo could be an ideal way to make that happen.
