The Sacramento Kings knows that Harrison Barnes is not a long-term piece. They can take advantage of his first half and use whatever value he has in a trade. This seems like the best move if they do not believe he will be around for the duration of the rebuild.
This process is going to happen around De’Aaron Fox. The franchise point guard is in the mist of his best season and they are hoping that he continues to grow into one of the elite players in the game. Buddy Hield was supposed to be the backcourt to mate for Fox but he has also been featured in NBA trade rumors.
Right now, it is all about what the Kings feel is the best move and this trade would dump salary. Andre Igoudala and Kelly Olynyk are veterans who are on short-term deals and will not handcuff the team for the future.
