Does This Trade Make Sense For The Toronto Raptors?

If the Raptors were to trade Pascal Siakam, it would mean that they would likely take a step back and take a season or two to “reset” themselves into a championship contender once again. Who knows what the future holds for Kyle Lowry since he will be 35-years old soon and since he is in the final year of his contract.

With his name coming up in a lot of trade rumors in connection with the 76ers, Heat and Clippers, Lowry could also be on the move near the trade deadline, giving the Raptors the opportunity to become a lot younger and have more overall talent on their roster moving forward.

Both Lowry and Siakam are fantastic players, but ultimately, if this team is going to win another championship in the near future, then they are going to have to get younger and add more depth to their roster. As a result, both All-Star caliber players could be finding new homes soon.

Trading Siakam to Denver gives the Raptors a fantastic wing in Michael Porter Jr. as well as a really solid guard in Gary Harris. With Fred VanVleet, Norman Powell, O.G. Anunoby and Chris Boucher being the future of this team, the Raptors need to surround them with as much talent as possible, which is exactly what they would be getting in this trade.

We talked about how great of a player Michael Porter Jr. can become, but R.J. Hamtpon also has a lot of potential to grow into a terrific backcourt player. At about 6’4”, Hampton has the size and athleticism to be a very skillful guard in this league and with no backcourt depth, he could immediately play big minutes for Toronto.

If they traded Siakam, they would definitely take themselves out of title contention this year, but the Raptors would still be a playoff team and could once again build their roster into a championship caliber roster moving forward.

Adding more young talent with potential to their roster, as well as a future first-round pick makes a ton of sense for the Raptors at this point. Trading Pascal Siakam may not be a bad idea since his value is as high as it will probably be in his career and since he has already reached the peak of what he will be in this league.
