Why The Trade Benefits The Raptors
Fred VanVleet and Pascal Siakam are both averaging 20 points per game this season. The Raptors are currently 17-17, which is better than they began. The Eastern Conference is weak near the bottom of the playoffs and this is why the Raptors have a chance to get in and make some noise.
That could be done without Kyle Lowry.
In 26 starts, Lowry is scoring 18 points per game. He is showing that he still has plenty left in the tank and that value could help the Raptors moving forward. He is in the final year of his deal and will be a free agent after the season.
Lowry is making $30 million this season and could be a big dump for the Raptors. In return, they would get a veteran in Thaddeus Young from the Bulls that could help this team turn it around a bit on and off the court. If the Raptors do not want to re-sign Lowry, it would benefit them greatly to send him away.
The Raptors have been one of the best teams in the league over the last two years, but that is not the case here in 2020-2021. There is still a lot of time to turn things around and climb up the standings if everything lines up.
