Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Brooklyn Nets

While he has bounced around the league quite a bit and has played both in the starting lineup and off the bench during his career, JJ Redick’s role has remained the same over almost two decades now and that is being a three-point threat whenever he has the ball in his hands. Since the 2014-15 season, Redick has ranked in the Top-15 every season in three-pointers made and has solidified himself as one of the All-Time greats from beyond the arc.

The best thing Brooklyn can do near the trade deadline is continue to add to their depth on the wing and JJ Redick is a very underrated player on the trade market right now. He is not getting the attention he deserves and even though he is 36-years old, he is still shooting 36% from three-point range this season and can be an impactful bench player.

While they could use a steady frontcourt option next to Jeff Green and DeAndre Jordan, adding Redick to this team gives the Nets yet another high-level three-point threat and someone who could draw some attention away from Durant, Harden and Irving.

Because of how good of a perimeter shooter JJ Redick is, teams could not afford to leave him open on the wing or in the corner for a wide-open three-point jumper, meaning that the Nets’ three superstars could attack teams on the same side that Redick is on, forcing them to choose their fate. They can either double-up on Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving or James Harden on the drive, or they can respect Redick on the perimeter.

Either way, the Nets will wind up getting a good shot and if they take away both the drive and the three-point opportunity with Redick, then someone else will be left wide open on the opposite side of the court. Adding JJ Redick to this team opens up the court a lot more and makes this Nets’ offense, which is already historically good, even better.
