Why This Trade Would Benefit The Minnesota Timberwolves
At this point, Minnesota has nothing to lose. They are already one of the worst, if not the worst, team in the league this season. They have been going through a rebuilding phase for what feels like a decade. Minnesota has made the postseason just once since drafting Towns in 2015. Taking a chance on a young player in need of a change is a low-risk move for the franchise.
This is not a blockbuster deal that will turn heads. We have seen all players, from Towns to Russell, featured in trade rumors out of Minnesota. The front office has a ton of work to do if they are going to right the ship. Malik Beasley is scoring 20.5 points per contest and could be an asset for this team moving forward, along with Anthony Edwards.
Kevin Knox II would give the team some different attributes if he develops the right way. There is a chance that he could clear his head and take his game to the next level in a much easier city than New York.

This move is certainly not going to change the fortune of Minnesota anytime soon, but it could just be the first of many. It will be interesting to see the front office begins to put their plan in motion because it is going to be one that takes a long time.
