Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Chicago Bulls

Zach LaVine is the only legit offensive threat on the Chicago Bulls and while they have some other young players in Coby White, Lauri Markkenen and Wendell Carter Jr. who have shown a lot of promise, they are still growing as young players.

Adding an experienced, former All-Star guard in Goran Dragic could not only impact this team offensively, but in the locker room as well. Dragic is a very well respected player and brings a ton of experience with him in this trade to Chicago. He knows what it takes to not only be an All-Star, but to make the NBA Finals, which could be extremely useful to a young, inexperienced team that is looking to make the playoffs.

He is not the scoring machine that LaVine is, but he is an all-around fantastic basketball player that can contribute to the Bulls as a second-unit player behind Coby White. This season, Dragic is averaging 15.0 points per game off-the-bench and could give Chicago a boost off-the-bench that they need in their backcourt.

Thaddeus Young does not present much of a future in Chicago and Garrett Temple was just a one-year signing by the Bulls, so they should be thrilled if they can get this kind of value by trading both of them to the Heat.

For a team that has missed the playoffs the last three seasons and has failed to win over 27 games per year during that span, the Chicago Bulls did not really do anything to make themselves better now this past offseason. Instead, they have focused on developing their young talent further and letting Zach LaVine grow into an All-Star talent.

This organization is not far off from being a legit playoff team in the Eastern Conference, but they are going to need to find more reliable talent to put around Zach LaVine because he cannot carry this team on his own.

With Kris Dunn gone and Tomas Satoransky not being a true reliable point guard, the Bulls need to solidify the depth in their backcourt. Goran Dragic can be the “do-it-all” guy for the Chicago Bulls and help speed up the development of some of the other young players on this team. Trading for Dragic allows the Bulls to continue building their young core and be a dangerous team within a couple of seasons.
