Brooklyn Nets Receive: G Delon Wright, G Wayne Ellington

Over the last few days, numerous NBA trade rumors have popped up with the Detroit Pistons, the most notable of them being that they are interested in Spencer Dinwiddie. While they are currently in last place in the Eastern Conference, the Pistons are actually not that bad of a team. All the pieces are there for them to be set up for future success, it will just take time for this organization.

With Jerami Grant having a breakout year for the Pistons, Saddiq Bey emerging as a high-impact rookie and other young players in Josh Jackson, Dennis Smith Jr. and Svi Mykhailiuk carving out bigger roles with this Pistons team, the Pistons are definitely trending in the right direction. Moving forward, this team will need to continue to put talent around Grant, which is why Spencer Dinwiddie could be a perfect fit for them.

Delon Wright has been a player that has been brought up in numerous NBA trade rumors and with them really needing a reliable point guard, Dinwiddie could be a player they aggressively pursue near the NBA trade deadline. If they do, Brooklyn should be elated because they could potentially get both Delon Wright and Wayne Ellington.

While he is out right now with a right adductor injury, Delon Wright is having a career year and is just 28-years old. The combo-guard is averaging 10.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.4 steals and is shooting 38.4% from three-point range. He is one of the more underrated guards in the league today and could play the same role Dinwiddie was supposed to play for this Nets team.

He is more than capable of being a second-unit guard for this team and does a little bit of everything for his team. He can pass, rebound, score and play solid one-on-one defense, making him a “swiss army knife” player the Nets could heavily utilize.

Wayne Ellington is also a player the Nets could utilize off-the-bench who is having a solid year. Now in his 12th season, Ellington has a lot of experience and is a career 37.9% three-point shooter, making him a dangerous perimeter threat for Brooklyn to utilize next to their three superstars.

If all the Pistons have to give up is Spencer Dinwiddie and a second-round pick for this trade to happen, this would be a huge win for the Nets and definitely give them the two extra players they need to win a championship this year. Even for the Pistons, this is a really good trade that would set them up for a lot of success moving forward, assuming Dinwiddie returns next season and plays at a high-level again.
