Houston Rockets Receive: G Spencer Dinwiddie, BRK 2022 2nd Round Pick

Brooklyn Nets Receive: F PJ Tucker, F David Nwaba

Brooklyn already made a trade with the Rockets earlier in the year as everyone knows, but they could look to make another one with Houston near the trade deadline. The Rockets are now on a 10-game losing streak and currently in 14th place in the Western Conference.

This Rockets team does not look like they have much of a chance of making the playoffs this year and as a result, could be willing to build for the future at the expense of some of their veteran players. PJ Tucker is a guy that has come up a lot in NBA trade rumors and would possibly like the idea of being reunited with Harden on a championship contending team in Brooklyn.

Tucker is one of those guys that will not fill up the stat sheets every night, but he will go out there, play at 110% and do all the little things to help his team win. He’s done that for the Rockets despite being upset about not receiving a favorable contract extension offer. For the Nets, they have been really bad defensively this season, which is why the addition of PJ Tucker could vastly improve their chances of winning a title this year.

They really need that one defensive stopper they can turn to and have on an opponent’s best player, which is why trading for Tucker from the Rockets makes a lot of sense. He is a pest on-the-ball and one of the better physical defenders in the league today as he’s shown with the Rockets.

Getting PJ Tucker and David Nwaba, a very solid wing who can aid in rebounding as well, at the expense of Spencer Dinwiddie not only helps the Nets in terms of depth, but gives them two more high-level talents they can utilize in their rotations to make a deep playoff run and hopefully win a title this year.

Spencer Dinwiddie is a terrific player, but he brings no value to the Nets this year and will be in the final year of his contract next season. Ultimately, after the 2021-22 season, when Dinwiddie is set to become a unrestricted free agent, the Nets will not have much room to re-sign him, so trading him away now while he still holds a good amount of value makes a ton of sense. Especially to a team like the Rockets who values established players over draft picks.

PJ Tucker and David Nwaba are two players who could not only help contribute to the Nets immediately, but help make them the best team in the league. Bolstering their depth around their three superstars must be the goal of the Nets’ front-office right now and this move definitely does just that.
