This Magic-Thunder trade gives Mo Bamba a fresh start

Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Orlando Magic

When you look at the Orlando Magic as a whole, Nikola Vucevic definitely sticks out, but there is really nobody else on this roster that you look at and are scared of. Evan Fournier, Terrence Ross and Aaron Gordon are all solid contributors, but this team is by no means ready to compete in the playoffs.

They are more than capable of winning 25-35 games during the regular season, but ultimately, this team is nothing more than a middle-of-the-pack team in this league. Building for the future is the way to go, which is why this trade makes sense.

It may not make sense to trade away a young talent like Mo Bamba, but they have no need for him anymore. Nikola Vucevic is playing at the highest level of his career, Khem Birch is a really solid backup and other frontcourt players like Jonathan Isaac, Aaron Gordon and Chuma Okeke will all get more playing time over Bamba when they are healthy.

With his value still being somewhat high from when he was drafted in the first-round, trading away Bamba for Muscala, Jerome and a future first-round pick makes a lot of sense for the Orlando Magic.

Ty Jerome could turn into a solid role player for the Magic as a perimeter-oriented threat and getting a first-round pick in 2023 gives Orlando more chances to build their core of the future. They could also use this first-round pick to acquire another high-level talent to pair with Vucevic.

With not much going for this team at the moment, trading away players with higher values than anticipated is the way to go, which is why trading Mohamed Bamba to OKC makes a lot of sense for the Magic.
