Why This Trade Would Benefit The New York Knicks

RJ Barrett was viewed as one of the most untouchable New York Knicks coming into the season. He was their third-overall pick in 2019 and began coming into his own this season.

In recent weeks, NBA trade rumors involving Barrett have been thrown around but it remains unlikely that the Knicks throw him in any deal. With that being said, anything is possible and for a player like Jimmy Butler.

In such a scenario, Barrett would have to be involved. He is second on the team this year scoring 16.1 points per game, but continues to struggle from three-point range shooting just 31%. He is beginning to figure out his game by getting to the basket and scoring inside. Until he develops a jumpshot, he is very one dimensional.

If this deal is going to happen, the Knicks will have to sign Randle to a long-term contract. At 26-years old, he still has plenty of years left and the Knicks could reward him for the season he is having. The duo of Randle and Butler could be electric moving forward.

Tom Thibodeau seems to finally have the Knicks pointed in the right direction. They lead the league allowing just 103.6 points per game. If they added more offense, they would certainly be winning more games. The Knicks’ offense has struggled and is the reason they are below .500 in the lowly Eastern Conference.
