Dallas Mavericks
Dallas is in a very similar position to the Pelicans in terms of being near the bottom of the league in defense, but a lot of the problems with this team lie in their frontcourt. Luka Doncic is a legit MVP candidate this season and basically does everything for the Mavericks.
Kristaps Porzingis is their second-best player and while he has struggled at times this season, he is still averaging over 20 points per game. Tim Hardaway Jr, Josh Richardson and Jalen Brunson have all also been solid contributors for the Mavericks this year.
Their only problem is that the Mavericks’ defense is terrible and that they do not have much overall depth on their roster. The Mavericks only play with about 7-8 guys per night and do not really go deep into their bench during big games.
Having a reliable, veteran player in P.J. Tucker not only gives Dallas a reliable defensive player, but it gives them more depth, something they desperately need. This team has the superstar, MVP candidate they need to be a true championship contender in Luka Doncic, but they need to be able to surround him with key role players that can help win games.

Tucker is not going to solve all of this Mavericks team’s problems defensively and he is not going to stuff the stat sheets, but he is more than capable of doing all the little things and the “dirty work” for the Mavericks to help them win games.
The Mavericks are in need of a “glue guy” who can do a little bit of everything for them on the court, which is why they need a player like P.J. Tucker. He supplies them with depth and can help them on the defensive end of the court, which is why trading for him could make them a bigger threat in the West.
