Why This Trade Benefits The New Orleans Pelicans
The New Orleans Pelicans are not a competitive team this season. They are in complete rebuilding mode and this could lead to them being sellers. The veterans on the roster would benefit a contending team moving forward and this would happen in a deal such as this one.
In return, Norman Powell would bring a new dynamic to the roster. He would come in and be a needed shot creator that can knock down catch-and-shoot jumpers and create for teammates.
Powell has shown that he can score from all over the floor while becoming one of the underrated shooters in the game. So far this season, he’s averaging an impressive 17.3 points while going 47.2% from the field and 42.6% from beyond the arc.

Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson are the future and it is important to put the right players around them for the future. JJ Redick and Josh Hart are players who certainly are not of that caliber but could command a bit of a return.
The Pelicans have some decisions to make regarding these players and Ball moving forward. It will be interesting to see what the front office in New Orleans decides to do with the lineup. They have their duo to build around and now will have to complete the rest.
