Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Charlotte Hornets:
Right now, the Charlotte Hornets are playing at a very high level and are a really solid all-around team. They have a lot of great, youthful talent, as well as a proven, All-Star leader in Gordon Hayward who has been fantastic for them this year.
Everything about this team looks like a true playoff contender, which is why adding Mo Bamba makes a lot of sense for the Hornets. Bamba can do exactly what Biyombo does already, plus he has more potential to be a better defensive player and Jalen McDaniel is not really in the rotation for Charlotte.
He is averaging just 12.7 minutes per game this year and is only playing of late because both Cody and Caleb Martin have been out due to health and safety protocols. McDaniels does not really have a role with the Hornets, meaning that they could give up two bench players for a young, former first-round pick that still possesses a lot of upside.
They would have to give up a future first-round pick in 2022 for Mo Bamba in this trade scenario, but they could possibly get away with changing this first-round pick to two second-round picks instead.
Either way, giving up virtually nothing for a young shot-blocker with a lot of potential to grow into a very solid big man is exactly what the Hornets could use now and moving forward. A young team getting more young talent makes Charlotte a dangerous team in the Eastern Conference and an organization that has one of the highest upsides out of any other team in the league.

As long as they are not giving up any of their key rotation players like Miles Bridges, Devonte’ Graham or Malik Monk, this trade makes a lot of sense for the Hornets and they should be willing to pull the trigger on it immediately. Mo Bamba can easily be a reliable back up center right now in the league, but needs the right opportunity to do so.
Charlotte can give him this opportunity and who knows, he could just become the Hornets’ center of the future this season.
