This Hornets-Magic trade features Mo Bamba to Charlotte

Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Orlando Magic:

While trading away young talent may not be the best thing for the Magic to do right now, especially since they are probably going to wind up missing the playoffs and do not have much talent on their roster to begin with, trading Mo Bamba can supply to Magic with some key assets they could potentially use to brighten their future.

We talked about Jalen McDaniels a bit and his potential to grow into something special, but another interesting thing about him is that he has three years left on his contract, including this year, and none of his contract is really guaranteed, giving the Magic all the leverage over him.

If things do not work out, they can simply release him with no strings attached and if they deem that he could make a difference for their team, they could potentially have him under contract at a very affordable price through 2022. It is a win-win for the Magic either way and he could turn out to be a really solid rotational player for them over the next few seasons.

Bismack Biyombo may not bring much in terms of future success with him to the Magic, but the future first-round pick they would be receiving does. Charlotte’s 2022 first-round pick would come with Top-5 protection on it, but with the Hornets on the verge of making the playoffs, it is safe to say that they will not be a bottom-tier team in 2022.

As a result, the Magic would be left with a mid first-round pick that they could use with their 2022 first-round pick to bring two, high-level, young talents to Orlando. Everything needs to be about building the future right now for this organization, which is why this trade makes a lot of sense for them to get as many future assets as possible.
