Milwaukee Bucks Receive: F PJ Tucker

Houston Rockets Receive: G Donte DiVincenzo, F D.J. Wilson, MIL 2022 2nd Round Pick

Given the trades the Rockets have made this year, they should be willing to part with some key role players for the right price. This team is still very much in the playoff conversation at this point in the season, but if their management is looking long-term, which they should be, they should be very interested in two young talents like DiVincenzo and Wilson.

Donte DiVincenzo has stepped into a bigger role with the Bucks this year and has started in all 31 games for them. The third year guard is currently averaging 10.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals and is shooting 38.8% from three-point range.

With Victor Oladipo’s future up-in-the-air and Eric Gordon being another aging veteran talent on the Rockets roster, DiVincenzo could immediately join this team and not only make an impact now, but be a key young talent in their core group moving forward.

D.J. Wilson is an unpolished forward that has really not been given any opportunities in the NBA. He is in the final year of his rookie contract and it seems likely that the Bucks are planning to let him become a free agent at the end of this season.

The former first-round pick has never held a significant role with the Bucks in the NBA, but in the G-League, he has played quite well. In 22 career G-League games, Wilson has averaged 16.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.9 steals and has shot 38.2% from three-point range.

In Houston, where there is playing time up for grabs, Wilson could potentially work his way into some rotations and could turn out to be a solid young bench talent for this organization. Either way, the Rockets have all the leverage in terms of Wilson’s contract and can simply let him go at the end of the year if they do not feel he can contribute for them moving forward.

PJ Tucker is a “do-it-all” kind of player and while he may not contribute much offensively in terms of scoring, he is a great role player that can defend virtually any position. He could really make a difference in the Bucks’ second-unit and help make them a better defensive team than they already are.

Getting two young players and a second-round draft pick seems to be fair value for PJ Tucker at this time and this could be one of the better offers the Rockets get for the veteran forward. This could be too good of an opportunity to pass up, so let’s take a closer look as to why this trade makes sense for both teams.
